Baritone Thomas Buckner, also an avid supporter and performance of contemporary music, has commissioned me to write a new work for him, together with a poet and ensemble of my choice. Hence, Breathtails, with poetry by Charles Bernstein. Planning to complete it during the Christmas holidays – a gift of breath, gasp! Scored for baritone voice, shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute), and string quartet.
